Muslims And Christians Pelt Each Other With Stones Over The Kwara Hijab Dispute.
Muslims and Christians clashed in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state, on March 17 after the state government reopened 10 Christian schools that had been closed due to a hijab controversy.
The Government-funded Christian schools had previously been closed due to a disagreement about Muslim students’ use of the hijab.
However, after the schools were reopened in accordance with the state government’s order today, March 17, a clash erupted.
The brawl erupted after Christian officials at Baptist School, Surulere, barred Hijab-wearing girls from entering the school. This did not sit well with Muslim parents, resulting in arguments and a dispute.
The situation worsened as angered Muslims and Christians believers threw stones and plastic chairs at one another.
To de-escalate the situation, security forces deployed outside the school had to call for reinforcements. Tear gas was used to disperse the crowd.
