Following Court Ruling Dismissing 18 Lawmakers, Police Have Taken Control Of The Cross River Assembly.
All roadways leading to the Cross River State House of Assembly have been taken over by Nigeria Police Force officers.
This comes just 24 hours after an Abuja High Court dismissed 18 members of the state House of Assembly and two members of the House of Representatives for defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
The Anti-Kidnapping and Cultism Squad, as well as normal police officers, are stationed within and outside the Assembly’s grounds.
Some of the cops were also observed standing near Governor Ben Ayade’s office, which is only a few blocks away.
The UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar is located directly across the street from the Assembly. Men suspected of being supporters of a political party can also be observed smoking and drinking hot beverages. Motorists and passers-by are having trouble weaving their way past the throng of security officers and their vans.
