The Pure Heart Islamic Foundation of Nigeria (PHF) has called on Nigerians, regardless of religion or ethnicity, to commit to building bridges of understanding and fostering peaceful coexistence.
As the country marks its 64th anniversary, the Pure Heart Foundation joined millions of Nigerians across the globe to reflect on the journey so far.
In a statement signed by the National Coordinator of the organisation, Mr. Ibrahim Ola Balogun, PHF expressed its belief that a united Nigeria would enhance the socio-political and economic progress the country desires.
The organisation noted that Nigeria has faced a series of challenges—such as civil war, military coups, political instability, and economic recession—and triumphs, including post-civil war restoration, a return to democracy, and some level of economic growth.
It added that, at a time when divisions, tribalism, and sectarianism are becoming more prevalent, Nigerians, especially the teeming youth, should focus on the values that unite the nation.
PHF stated that Islam teaches the importance of unity, peace, tolerance, and cooperation for the common good of the masses.
Key Role of Muslim Youth
It added that through the teachings of Islam, Muslim youth have made significant contributions to the nation’s development in Nigeria. From leadership to community development, education, and entrepreneurship, Muslim youth have played a key role in shaping Nigeria. Guided by the teachings of Islam, which emphasise justice, service, and compassion, they have been part of the fabric that holds the nation together.
“We are aware of the challenges that the future holds. Our economy is undergoing significant instability, and the stability of our national unity is increasingly threatened. The erosion of national security and identity, the precariousness of political order, and our dependency on oil are all challenges that governments at all levels must tackle assiduously.“
Education Loan Fund
PHF acknowledged the recent progress made with the provision of an Education Loan Fund for undergraduate students across the country and in combating insecurity.
“We believe additional efforts are required by the government to guarantee access to quality education and improve the security of lives and property for all citizens.”
As Nigeria marks 64 years of independence, the organisation called on governments at all levels to adopt more humane economic policies focused on lifting people out of poverty and promoting social justice.
Just as Zakat in Islam encourages the sharing of wealth with the needy, PHF believes the government can implement similar systems to ensure that no Nigerian is left behind.
Now, more than ever, policies that prioritise the well-being of the people are needed.
For Nigeria to truly achieve greater economic growth and take its rightful place among developed and respected nations, the government must invest in the future of its children, youth, and communities. Education and healthcare are at the heart of this.
Healthcare Services
“Every home, no matter where it is within the country, should have access to quality education and healthcare services without worrying about the cost. We call on the government to reform these essential services and ensure they are accessible to all,” the statement added.
The Foundation restated its commitment to supporting initiatives that improve education and healthcare because a healthy, educated population is key to sustainable growth and development.
“We also applaud the Nigerian government’s steadfast support for the Palestinian cause, as highlighted by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the recently concluded UN General Assembly. His heartfelt call that Palestine deserves independence speaks to the core of what justice means in today’s world.”
Call for Global Peace
PHF noted that the ongoing war in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon continues to claim thousands of innocent lives, including youth, children, and women. It urged leaders around the globe to rise in support of peace.
“This is not just a political issue; it’s a humanitarian one. We must do everything we can to de-escalate the crisis, protect the vulnerable, and ensure the suffering ends. Now more than ever, our collective voice is needed to call for peace and justice, defend the rights of Palestinians, and support stability in the entire Middle East.”
“As we commemorate this Independence Day, I implore all our members and supporters across the country and in the diaspora to remain committed to promoting peace, unity, and the development of our country.”
The organisation reiterated that with the right values and collective effort, Nigerians can build a nation where everyone can thrive. It urged everyone to continue striving in a manner that would allow them to return to their Lord with “pure hearts.”
It prayed that Allah continues to bless Nigerian leaders with wisdom and guide all Nigerians toward a future full of hope, justice, and prosperity.
