Atiku Abubakar, The PDP Presidential Candidate, Picks Governor Okowa As His Running Mate.
The PDP 2023 general election presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has chosen Delta state governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.
He made the decision this morning, June 16, after the party’s National Working Committee presented him with three shortlisted nominees. Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Ifeanyi Okowa of Ifeanyi State, and Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State were among those who addressed him.
Following careful consideration, he chose Okowa as his running mate. At the unveiling, Atiku stated that one of the criteria he considered was that his running mate has ‘presidential qualities.’
Recall that Wike, who had been on the radar of the PDP heavyweights, was rumoured to have been selected as Atiku’s running mate.
However, the party denied reports that its Selection Committee had settled on the Rivers State governor as the party’s vice-presidential candidate yesterday (Wednesday).
The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, dismissed media reports that the party had chosen Wike, saying the National Working Committee was looking into the matter and consulting to determine the best vice presidential candidate for the party in the 2023 elections.
The PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) met in Abuja on Wednesday at 11 a.m., as part of efforts to speed up its process.
