Giorgio Chiellini Takes A Swipe At Cristiano Ronaldo, Claiming That Paulo Dybala Was Forced To ‘Lower His Goals’ To Accommodate Him At Juventus.
Giorgio Chiellini, the Juventus captain, has taken a swipe at Cristiano Ronaldo, stating that the team revolved around him at the club and that his presence drove Paulo Dybala to ‘lower his goals’ to accommodate him.
After three years at Juventus, the Portuguese superstar returned to Manchester this summer in an emotional deadline-day deal.
Ronaldo scored two goals in United’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle at Old Trafford on Saturday.
After losing 2-1 to Napoli after Ronaldo’s departure, Juventus has only managed one point from their first three Serie A matches.
Despite their terrible start, Chiellini believes Juventus can cope without the 36-year-old after the club used the team to play for him.
According to Football Italia, the defender informed DAZN:
‘When you have a world-class player like Cristiano, you cannot help but use the team to play for him.
‘We must be grateful to Cristiano for all he did during these years at Juventus, but we carry on.
‘This will be Paulo Dybala’s team. Over the last couple of years, he lowered his average goals because of Cristiano’s presence, but he is a key player for this team and that is recognised by everyone.’
