Muslim Students Enlighten School Leavers On Business, Career Choice

The Muslim Students’ Society Of Nigeria, Ogudu-Ojota central branch have enlightened Lagos school leavers on the next step after secondary school at its school leavers’ seminar on Saturday.

Speaking about the event themed, ‘Change In Value: Career Choice In The 21st Century’, the Amir of the central branch, Sulaimon Dhikrullah Adeyemi, said the program was organized to expose their members to opportunities in higher institutions and prepare them for difficulties ahead.

“The aim for organizing the program is to expose our members to opportunities in the higher institutions and prepare them for challenges ahead, we brought Dr. Abdulhakeem Kazeem to do justice to the theme of our School leavers seminar.”

According to the Amir, the program also sought to place participants in a better financial situation in light of the country’s present economic downturn.

“The program is also aimed at positioning participants in a better economic state considering the current economic recession in the country, this is why we brought a facilitator to train members on how to make millions from snail farming plus practical steps to starting the business,” he said.

The guest speaker, lecturer at the Department of Educational Management, University of Lagos, Dr. Kazeem Olubunmi Abdulhakeem, emphasized the significance of youths putting their intelligence to good use.

He cited an example of Nigerian former internet personality Ramon Olorunwa Abbas aka Hushpuppi and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg who are both technically savvy.

Abdulhakeem highlighted how Mark Zuckerberg became one of the world’s richest men by using his intellect to solve a problem, whereas Hushpuppi ended up in jail for defrauding others.

The snail farming facilitator, Ademolu Onabajo, the MD Capricorn Farms Ltd and CEO Topkenny Ventures, stressed the need for a proper setup when starting a snail farming business.

Speaking about Onabajo’s session, one of the event participants, Abdullah Hawal Ayomide, a young entrepreneur and CEO Mide Creative, explained how the facilitator modernized snail farming.

“The children of nowadays are leaving the job of our forefathers, but the lecturer explained snail farming in a modern way. We were made to understand that no matter the work or profession we do, we can still do snail farming or any other farming,” he said.

Another participant, Muinat Dawodu, chipped in on the event’s theme.

“I learned that choosing a career in the 21st century must be driven by one’s passion because the career shouldn’t be about the money that’d be gotten from it but rather the value that’d be impacted on others or the society,” Dawodu said.

“One shouldn’t do things that only the society enjoys, we should do things that make us happy and also satisfy the society. We should like what we do, develop skills about it, and follow up on it. We should also have the mindset that school isn’t the ultimate, what one does with school is what matters the most.” she added.
